Panic attacks are characterised by sudden periods of acute apprehension or intense fear, & can vary in duration from minutes to hours. The panic occurs spontaneously & unexpectedly for no reason & as a result, can be very frightening, upsetting & can take days to recover from.
Despite all of this, it is important to remember that no-one has ever died of a panic attack. Some people may only suffer a few panic attacks & then never experience one again, or they may suffer recurring attacks in a short period of time. Repeated attacks & anxiety about the recurrence of panic attacks are considered symptoms of panic disorder, & this could then lead the sufferer to experience agoraphobia.
Hypnosis, hypnotherapy & cognitive techniques can assist with reducing & desensitising you to the psychological & physiological symptoms of panic attacks, enabling you to take control & deal with the symptoms more effectively.
