Apart from a lovely new working environment, working closer to home has some extra unforeseen benefits.
On days when I don't have clients booked in all day, I decided that I would cycle to work. I have to admit, the increases in petrol did 'fuel' part of this decision but it was also about the environmental impact as well.
It is actually only 1.5 miles from home to my office and I meander my way there in about 10-12 minutes. One day, I woke up very early, cycled to work, got some admin done, cycled to the gym (15mins), had a workout, cycled back to the office (another 15mins) to do some more work before cycling to my parents (about 12mins) before cycling home again (another 15mins) - that's about an hours cycling.
My bike isn't all singing and dancing. When my uncle passed away over 10yrs ago, it was the one thing of his that I wanted to have to remember him by.
I have to say that I really enjoy cycling to work. Most of my cycle route avoids cycling on roads and parts of it go through woodland where I see and hear lots of birds and other wildlife. It's a lovely way to start the day, as well as a lovely buffer zone between work and home life, where I can clear my mind before getting down to work, or wind down and switch off my busy mind when I finish. As an added bonus, I'm out in the fresh air, and I'm getting some exercise.
On the days when I don't cycle in, I really miss it and I dread waking up on a cycling day to see it raining.
So what I'd like to know is, what changes have you made that had an added unforeseen extra benefit?
